Mexican Cinema at Cannes 2026
Four shorts helmed by Mexican filmmakers have been selected for the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, according to the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE). The films will screen across multiple sections of the festival, including Écrans Juniors and Blood Window, a showcase dedicated to genre cinema from Latin America.
Écrans Juniors Selection
Three shorts made the cut for Cannes Écrans Juniors:
- Moscas, directed by Fernando Eimbcke
- Chicas tridas, directed by Fernanda Tovar
- Vainilla, directed by Mayra Hermosillo
Blood Window Showcase
Three additional titles compete in the Blood Window section:
- El Infinito
- El diablo adentro
- Las lágrimas de Bael
Feature Films and Beyond
Mexican presence extends further with Ceniza en la boca, the directorial debut of actor Diego Luna, which premiered in the festival's official selection. Bruno Santamaría Razo's Seis meses en el edificio rosa con azul also competed.
Actor Diego Calva stars alongside Cara Delevingne in Club Kid, the directorial debut of comedian Jordan Firstman. The selection underscores growing international recognition for independent Mexican cinema.
Morelia Film Festival Connection
The Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia is preparing its 24th edition, scheduled for October 16-25. Several of these productions may return for Mexican audiences at that event.
