NASA Names Artemis III Crew

NASA unveiled the four-person crew for Artemis III on June 9 from the Johnson Space Center in Houston. This 2027 test flight will rehearse essential maneuvers for humanity's return to the lunar surface.

Meet the Crew

The mission lineup includes:

What Is Artemis III?

Artemis III is not a lunar landing, but rather a critical test flight in low Earth orbit. The mission will demonstrate the rendezvous and docking of the Orion capsule with commercial lunar landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin, a prerequisite for the actual Moon landing planned for Artemis IV.

The Space Launch System rocket will launch from Kennedy Space Center for roughly two weeks in space. Testing will validate interfaces, software, propulsion systems, and communications between all spacecraft involved.

Why It Matters for Mexico

The program carries significance for Mexico as it sets the pace for the international lunar competition that frames the country's space efforts through the Mexican Space Agency and university nanosatellite projects.

The Bigger Picture

Jared Isaacman, NASA Administrator, stated: "Artemis III will demonstrate the power of American innovation and international partnership."

The Artemis program represents NASA and its international partners' commitment to return astronauts to the Moon and establish sustained human presence on its surface. This mission follows Artemis II, completed in April 2026, and will pave the way for the highly anticipated surface landing on Artemis IV.
