Museums Keep Late Hours for the Beautiful Game

If you're coming for the World Cup, Mexico City's museums will be waiting. The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBAL) will operate with extended hours from June 11 to July 5, anchoring the city's cultural program around the tournament with two special Museum Nights on June 10 and 17.

The agenda is packed. According to the INAH bulletin, the National Museum of Anthropology, the National Museum of History, and the Templo Mayor museum will stay open until 7 p.m. throughout the period. Special experiences include Archaeological Sunrises at Xochicalco, Tula, and Cuicuilco. The Dónde Ir guide details that Museum Nights will feature 19 open activities across venues including the Palace of Fine Arts, the National Art Museum, and the Tamayo.

Culture on the Sidelines

It's a gesture of cultural hospitality. While soccer dominates the headlines, the strategy is clear: give foreign visitors and locals alike easy access to art and history within walking distance of the stadiums. Street art routes and programs of music, theater, and dance round out an offer designed to make the entire city function as a living museum for six weeks.

What You Need to Know

Mark your calendar for June 10 and 17 for Museum Nights, many with limited capacity requiring advance registration. Check the official schedule and book ahead, because World Cup crowds are sure to pack the galleries.
