Double the Culture This June

Mexico City will host two Museum Nights in June, not one, on the 10th and 17th as part of the cultural calendar for the 2026 World Cup. This duplicates an event that normally happens just once monthly, on the last Wednesday.

According to Infobea, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) extended hours at venues like the Templo Mayor and Chapultepec Castle until 7 p.m., while the Palace of Fine Arts Museum operated 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the first night. Three private museums, Jumex, Franz Mayer, and Yancuic, stayed open until 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. The events coincided with road closures downtown due to teachers' union protests, forcing five museums in the historic center to close and redirecting crowds toward venues on Reforma and Polanco avenues.

19 Events Across Both Nights

The program bundles 19 activities across both dates under INBAL's "World Cup Museum Nights" cycle. The lineup includes concerts, guided tours, workshops, readings, film screenings, and live performances. The June 10 opening featured free performances by Mariachi Real de Jalisco and the Mexican National Ballet Folklore Choir in the Palace of Fine Arts lobby, with capacity for 800 guests. Simultaneously, the Diego Rivera Mural Museum presented "Nocturnal Among Bones," a theatrical runway blending dance, theater, and folk traditions around the Catrina figure, plus a guided tour called "Actions in Transit."

Extended Hours Through Early July

The second Museum Night is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, with the same roster of 19 activities. Five INBAL museums will keep extended evening hours through July 5, sustaining late-night access throughout the group stage of the tournament.
