Remittances Maintain Positive Momentum

Banco de México (Banxico) reported that family remittance income sustained positive growth during the first four months of 2026. Official figures show that Mexico received $19.676 billion in remittances between January and April, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

April alone saw money transfers from abroad reach $4.978 billion, up 3.7% from April 2025. These flows reflect the steady stream of resources sent primarily by Mexican workers living in the United States, solidifying remittances as one of Mexico's major sources of foreign currency.

Supporting Households and Local Economies

Experts highlight the significant impact these transfers have on household consumption, particularly in communities where remittances represent a crucial income source. The funds typically go toward food, housing, education, healthcare, and small business ventures, fueling economic activity at the grassroots level.

The resilience of remittance flows comes despite a challenging global economic and financial environment. Mexico's sustained inflows reflect the continued participation of Mexican workers abroad and the deep economic integration between Mexico and the United States.

Vital for Regional Development

Banxico's latest data confirm that remittances remain essential to the financial health of thousands of Mexican communities. Beyond bolstering household income, these resources stimulate commerce and services across multiple regions, especially in states with high dependence on foreign remittance income.
